The Clash of Orthodoxies
Join the St. Anthony of Padua Institute, on Wednesday, August 25th, for the Eighth Manhattan Forum lecture: the Clash of Orthodoxies. Robert George will tackle the issues at the heart of the contemporary conflict of worldviews. Secularists typically suppose that their positions on morally charged issues of public policy are the fruit of pure reason, while those of their religious opponents reflect an irrational faith. George will show that this supposition is wrong on both counts. Challenging secularism’s claim to represent the triumph of reason, George argues that on controversial issues like abortion, euthanasia, same-sex unions, civil rights and liberties, and the place of religion in public life, traditional Judaeo-Christian beliefs are rationally superior to secular alternatives. When: Wednesday, August 25th at 7pm. Where: The Cathedral of Christ the Light Conference Center, 2121 Harrison St. Admission: $50. Pre-registration is required. Visit www.sapi.org/mforum to register.
Manhattan Forum Conference
In November, 2009 , a group of Catholic, Orthodox, Anglican, and Evangelical Christian leaders released the Manhattan Declaration, a document reaffirming and promising to defend fundamental truths in three areas:
It is clear that these basic truths are being threatened today on all sides. Millions of innocent children are being killed by abortion; same-sex "marriage" has become common in several states; and there are very real threats to our ability to freely practice religion and follow our consciences.
Join the St. Anthony of Padua Institute and the Diocese of Oakland, along with a great list of speakers (Robert George, Archbishop Allen Vigneron, Bishop Thomas Curry, Jennifer Roback Morse, and more!), for enlightenment and advice on addressing the challenges facing Catholics, Christians, and all persons of good will in our civic life
Wednesday, Aug. 25: Robert George
Saturday, September 18: All-Day Conference; Mass said by Archbishop Allen Vigneron and Bishop Salvatore Cordileone
Cost for both events: $50
Pre-registration is required. To register, or for more info, please go to www.sapi.org
